Doctor Doctor Give me the News and it better not be Kidney Stones....

And I would appriciate it if it was good news. I think I am pretty much done with feeling like crap. Although last week really was the icing on the Frelling Cake

So I cracked a tooth, was in a tremendous deal of pain, dentist put a temp fix in. Went in the next day, while she was trying to fix the tooth, it exploded. She patched it up fine. Tooth pain equalls migraine. I had to call my neurologist because my meds weren't working. She had me try some different things. It finally worked. and then...THEN?

A kidney stone from hell. I had forgotten HOW bad a bad episode could be. I am used to them moving in their sleep, this was a ROAD TRIP.
I got morphine which helped tremendously. I was such an idiot. I was playing the martyr card a bit. By the time I drove myself to the hospital (my choice, I didn't want to wake Spotty up for this) I was in agony.
Start of headache, the doctor/nurse told me when I said I was starting to get a headache that morphine can do it to you, but Vicodin can help...For the love of Christ, I don't want to take more pills!!!! (and you know coming from me...that's saying something).

Now 2 weeks later I am set for surgery on Monday. I saw one doctor who thought since I may have passed a 10mm stone a few years ago I should be able to pass the 8mm one. Last Tuesday I spoke with another doctor who said "you will be in surgery by Monday, you will not pass this."

So it's lasers up the Woo Woo time again. This time they had better frelling find it. I DO NOT want to go through all this for nothing. Although if they do not find it, they will not have to put in a stint in and then remove it during an office visit.

Really?

Mothers and the women who love them

A few months ago, at some point, my car engine blew up for the second time in 2 months. I was a bit distraught and for some reason decided that working from my parent’s home would be easier than going into the office. Below is a conversation I had with a co-worker. And YES both mothers are still alive…

Then she said "you smell like pot".
Yes mom I need to toke up with Spotty Chop in the car on the ride into work.
No one has smoked pot anywhere near her in over 20 years...

Your response should have been
"I was just about to say the same of you Mother..."

Just to make sure you don't feel alone...
Shorty wanted to tell me that my father finally admitted that she was right about sunblock... no one ever argued, we all just hate
sunblock.... She also tried to tell me about all the other things that she was right about, but I ignored her. I must have been busy when the announcement came out that God has stepped down and my little ray of sunshine has taken over... God help me.

I just got the "you need to stop giving Spotty Chop mac & cheese. A study just came out. It is the worst thing you can give kids." Also "stop buying junk food. Boy Toy will just have to eat fruits and veggies."

I can't count high enough for the things that woman is right about and
the rest of us mere mortals are wrong...Maybe I can let her know that
God's spot is already taken by Shorty...after she wakes up from her nap.

So I say do you want me to answer the phone? She says "yes, tell them I'm napping". I'm like, I will just say you are unavailable. And I get, with tude…"This is not a business. Tell them I am napping."

Whatever byotch.

I say let's put them in a room and let them find out who is #1 and who is #2... But I will warn mama me... Shorty's motto is "the view doesn't change unless you are the lead dog"...

Like they wouldn't hunt us down like dogs?

And if the phone rings again - start messing w/ her... tell her you didn't hear anything... Mom, how long have you been hearing bells?

The conversation went downhill from there…

MERGE MUTHER Fer MERGE

Why oh why is this such a foreign concept to all? If you are driving a car in a place where other cars may also be driving and you are going from 2 lanes to 1, let one car in. You don’t have to be a martyr, just let one car go. Because if you do and if everyone knew that everyone would let one car go we wouldn’t have ASSHATS passing on the shoulder because they just want to get on the Fing highway. We wouldn’t be stuck in 30 minutes of traffic because god forbid someone let someone else in front of them thereby making them .07 seconds later than they would have been if they were in front.

On another note, if you are driving your brandy new Lexus and you need to leave a 2-7 car buffer around you at all times BUY A FRELLING DIFFERENT CAR.

I know you want to cut in front of me, I know you think you have more important places to be than I do, but honestly I don’t think so. I know I am not up the ass of the person in front of me, and I don’t think they want you there either.

You are not driving a duck tour bus, you do NOT need two lanes to drive. Pick one and move the hell over.

If you leave enough space between you and the next car that allows not one but two 18 wheelers to cut in front of you, YOU ARE NOT DRIVING FAST ENOUGH.

If you can’t figure out that in a four way stop sign everyone must take turns, perhaps you should go back to kindergarten.

GET OFF THE PHONE for the love of Christ!

If I am in the slow lane doing 75, riding on my ass because you want to go faster will not work .Trust me.

Are you in line for the tolls? Are you more than 2 cars away? FIND YOU FRELLING MONEY YOU MORE-ON, don’t wait until you are up there and then look for it.

To Recap: MERGE, STOP TALKING, BUY A DIFFERENT CAR, SPEED THE F up and slow the F down!

Volunteering is BAD

So someone needed to be in NY for two days. My colleague went for a day. My boss got hurt. I refused to let her go to the office at all. So I went to NYC. Lovely trip, got stuff done…but then there was the trip home.

I left the office at 2:30 to get to LaGuardia for a 4:00pm flight back to Boston. Got there with plenty of time to spare. And the 4:00 was cancelled due to weather. But since I got to the airport early I was able to get a great seat for the 5:00. I am sitting watching SG1 (season 7) when I realize that it is 4:30 and we should be getting on the plane soon.

5:45PM departure. Well, that’s not so bad. Around 5:00pm they cancel the 6:00. I am feeling a bit uneasy. At 5:30 they tell us the plane has not left Boston yet. At 5:45 they cancel the 5:00PM. 3 cancelled flights of people are trying to get onto the 7:00. It is still raining.

After 3 calls to rental car places I finally get through to one. I hop on the shuttle and pick up my car. I also pick up a GPS. Otherwise known as the Holy Grail. It doesn’t take me 95, but some back way that seriously saved me about 2 hours of driving time.

I was in bed snuggling Spotty chop by 9:30. Was asleep before 10:00.

Did I mention my car was still at the airport?

I fill the tank and drop off the car. I hop on the shuttle to the airport. I hop off the shuttle. I reach for my….keys….I call Boy Toy. I wait in wind for Boy Toy and Spotty to bring me my keys.

I drive home.

We have no snacks in the house…except for the Easter Basket

Good Fin God, or how I spent my weekend.

Boy toy’s birthday was Saturday. Spotty and I made a list of the things we needed to do:

1) pick out cake flavor
2) pick out cake design
3) get ice coffee, tea and a sprinkled donut
4) pick out balloons
5) decorate
6) go to store to get eggs and milk for cake
7) go to store to buy daddy present
8) wrap presents
9) wake up daddy

As you can see it was a busy day. Spotty decided that daddy needed a chocolate cake (his choices were yellow, white, chocolate and lemon). And a train cake (circle, square, car, castle, train). We went to dunkies and picked up the goods, then ran over to iparty so Spotty could pick out some balloons. Spotty picked out 3 blue swirly ones, 3 geometric shapes (that ended up being blow up with air and put on sticks) 2 balloons with numbers (1 and 4) a plain pink one, an enormous yellow smiley face and an enormous pink one. We tied the balloons to the door knobs to lead Boy toy to the kitchen where the last balloon was tied to the refrigerator to point him to his ice coffee. I had wanted to go shopping before we woke up daddy, but Spotty was too excited with our decorating. So we woke him up and Spotty proudly showed him all of the balloons. Spotty and I then ran to store, where there wasn’t a parking spot to be had. Now I am not one of those lurkers that sits in the middle of the parking lot looking for someone way up front to pull out. I see the first spot empty and I grab it, but with Spotty in tow I really prefer not having to park across the highway (ok perhaps I exaggerate a bit, but seriously this parking lot is like frogger). We then proceed to our neighborhood store to pick up Boy Toy’s big gift. Spotty picked out a blue ipod nano? I don’t know it’s a device that will let him listen to music. When we got home Boy toy and Spotty played some Sly Cooper 2 as I got stuff ready to make cake. Spotty was more than ready to help and we mixed up some chocolate cake. Spotty did some random sample testing to assure quality control. Once that was in the oven we wrapped presents. Spotty has never helped with presents and I had to take an extra happy pill to get through it, but get through it we did. He had picked out the reversible wrap that was blue with yellow dots on one side and green and yellow stripes on the other. Later that night we went to Boy toy’s parents where we ate pizza and did more presents. Gramie took a finger painting that Spotty did in school and framed it, (as hokey as that sounds it really looks nice.)

Sunday was spent bickering; I mean chatting and playing video games. Spotty as always wanted to play cars and we zoomed around the house looking for adventure. We were born, born to be mild. I ended up taking a nap for a few hours. I needed it desperately. The previous evening Boy toy and Spotty had been fooling around with Grumpa’s scooter he uses when he is outside. Spotty accidentally pushed the forward button (knob, whatever) and my foot got crushed between a desk and the scooter. Luckily I don’t think anything broke, but it hurts to have a shoe on, hell it hurts to have a sox on. Come 3 pm I just wanted to go to bed…and I did.
Which brings me to today, which I know is not technically the weekend, and is in fact the start of the week, but as I ran out to the car this am (all of 1 degree I believe) to warm it up for our normal morning thing I vaguely recall Boy toy telling me (at 3am when he came to bed) that I needed gas. What do you know, the gas light was on, so I hopped into the car and drove to the gas station. Yes, no coat, no hat, not a single luxury. I pumped my car full of gas and then tried to take a short cut home through the alley behind a shopping plaza. I get half way down and BAM 18 wheeler parked in such a way that I can not get through. So I turn around and go back to the entrance of the plaza where there is a light. As I am sitting there I say to myself “self, what the Frell are you thinking? Go through the parking lot, at the other end is a stop sign, no light!” So I floor it (because looking at the time, I am running late and still need to get Spotty chop dressed and into the car) as I am doing 30 backwards what do I notice sitting in the Uno parking lot? Yes a Statey. Luckily the bastard was sleeping or I was giving off enough vibes for him to ignore me. I got home, threw everything into the car, got Spotty dressed, buckled in and warm and even remembered my coat.

So how’s your day going?

06 January, 2009

I hate when blogs that I enjoy reading don't get updated in awhile don't you?

Hey, how's it goin? How are things? Family good? Had a good holiday?

Sorry I've been MIA, but we have had a bit of life happening. Everyone has chaos during the holidays and I am no exception. But add to that Boy Toy slipping the first or second week in December when he brought the Tree around back, a night in the ER. MRI's and Specialists. Finally having it turn out to be ok, getting ready to go back to work the Monday before Xmas. The Friday before the Monday getting a "sorry, we are laying you off phone call". PLUS I knit 5 hats 2 scarfs and 1/3 of the way through a stole (did I mention I now have 3 baby blankets that need to be made?) PLUS read 3 books, AND almost finished Buffy Season 3. I just didn't have it in me to look at the computer.

But....I'M BACK and joined the YMCA...I am sure there will be hilarity there somewhere....

SUCK ASS morning!

Spotty Chop and I leave the house at 6:30am so I can get him to daycare, 45 minutes away, and then I drive to the train station 3 min away to catch the 8:00am train so I can get into work by 9:00am. When I get to the train station and go to grab my stuff and hop on the train I notice that my BRIGHT PINK backpack is not with me. I left the frelling thing at home. I have been taking the train for 15 years, this is the first time I have forgotten my bag. So I drive 45 minutes back to my house and there is the bag. I hop on Boy toy’s computer to see when the Franklin trains are running and luckily there is one at 9:08 or something like that. I fly out of the house and go to the train station, about 10-15 min away. I grab my backpack and go looking for my pocketbook so I can get my money for parking and the trip in. The Needham train is several dollars cheaper. No Fin bag. Now I have to go digging through the car and thank god my car isn’t clean, I find some crumpled $1’s and a few quarters. I crackberry a few people in the office until I finally get my boss, everyone else is in NY. I’m cracking him my saga and I say,” I need money to get home”. He says fine. During the hour long trip into Boston I figure I can do some work. The battery on my laptop is drained. The crackberry has stopped synching my calendar, so I have no meetings or notifications of meetings and I miss 2 big ones. I frelling finally get to work and see that my pocketbook is sitting on my desk. At least it was here. The rest of the day has been…A goat rodeo, what I started saying when my dad said “cluster fuck is not professional, come up with something else”. I just want this day to end so I can go home and snuggle with Spotty. Or have ice cream…either would be good right now.

And then I sent facilities this little gem…

26T3 ladies room. The left sink is running again, I don't know who the moron is that can't figure out that the sink doesn't work and keeps washing her hands, especially since the left hand soap dispenser can't be bothered to give you enough soap to wash a gnat. Could someone take the sink away, maybe then the idiots will stop using it. Thanks so much!

I wonder if anyone can tell I am a bit cranky?

DIE

I am taking a page from TK’s book.
Uncooked Meat: I hope this letter finds you well out of harm's way

Dear See’s Sweepers truck,
Dude the road is wet, it is not snow covered, and it is not black ice. It is 6:51am and I am 15 minutes late. Going 30 miles an hour when the speed limit is…35 or 40 is just wrong. I will rear end you if you hit your breaks again when a car comes the other way.

Dear New England weather,
What is this drizzley shit? Just enough falls on the windshield to cause a giant smudge of grayish brown. Windshield wipers? You can be replaced, get that crap out of my line of sight now.

To my beloved Boy toy
You caught the stomach bug that Spotty and I have had. You were hurling every 45 friggen minutes last night. It sucks, get better soon.

Dear Spotty Chop, my son, the love of my life
If you fucking EVER hide on mama again when we are shopping so help me GOD I will not be held accountable for my actions. I understand at 2 ½ you like to hide, but when mama is calling you frantically with tears streaming down her face because she thinks some fuckwad has taken you and finally has some little 80 year old grandmother like woman with an accent I couldn’t place, but said “HERE” in a voice that was used to dealing with her own hysterical tribe of girls “don’t you raise your eyebrow to me young lady”. And honestly what the fuck is up with the rest of you shoppers at the Natick lateeda mall? Are you too good to stop looking for a deal that you can’t at least pretend to look? FUCK YOU BYOTCHES.

Dear commuter line,
What is up with the trains that have water dripping in the windows? Why is this happening? If I wanted to be wet I would ride my bike. Fix this shit now. Just because you have been “on time” twice this week doesn’t mean shit.

Dear rancid pieces of crap that keep calling my house thinking its Wal-Mart,
I know our number is just like theirs, I don’t mind that you get the number wrong, it happens, but could you perhaps figure it out after the 3rd call? 5 or 6 times is a bit much don’t you think? If an answering machine says “we can’t take your call right now” you can pretty much be guaranteed that it is not a major outlet.

Dear Asshat of an ATT sales rep that gave us the number in the first place
I always think of you during the holidays. Satan called, your rooms ready.

Dear anyone shopping who is in a parking garage
GET THE FUCK OUT OF THE WAY. Stop holding up the line of traffic because you think you see someone walking to their car. There is room on the roof. Besides they are just dropping off packages, that is a prime spot, they aint going anywhere.

Dear Stomach virus that currently has taken up residence,
You have overstayed your welcome, it is time for you to find someone new, it’s not you it’s me. I appreciate that you have moved on to boy toy, but you can’t have us both, please pack your bags and go.

10 December, 2007

No good deed goes unpunished Pt 2.

So this morning in the NE we had a delightful ice storm, which apparently covers everything in ice. Boy toy went out in his long undies to start his truck around 6:10am, he was running late. Did he start my jeep? Alas he did not, it is morning time, and he just doesn’t do well. As he runs around the house I toss his lunch together and helpfully tell him “you forgot to make coffee”, his response is less than cheerful. At 6:15am I go out to start my car, I run out in just a sweater as I will only be out for a second. I turn the car on and notice that his windows are still icy. I take out my handy dandy ice scraper and start scraping, I do wonder if I should run in for a coat, but as the ice is coming off of the driver side fairly easily I think I can wrap this up in another minute or two.

As I go around the back of the truck my feet notice that there is something shiny towards the street and they should go hither at once. The rest of my body would like to continue around the truck, except for my right elbow that would prefer to stay with my car. Apparently my dance of doom was so stupendous that someone driving by stopped, got out of his truck, and said “DAMN, are you OK? Do you need help? And as he took a step towards me, “SHIT”, I let the good Samaritan know I would survive and he said “thank fucking god”. I held on to the truck for dear life and shuffled my way to the other side, tearing skin off my hands as they stuck to the frozen metal. I cleaned those Frelling windows, I am woman hear me whimper.

Now my neck is stiff, my lower right ribs throb, my left butt cheek feels like I really shouldn’t be sitting on it, my back on the right side where my waist (or what used to be a waist) feels the way it does before it seizes, right above my right elbow is numb, my left arm feels like a donkey kicked it (just started as I was typing this) and my left hand feels like someone used it as a ball in one of those games…football I think it is, field kick? Punt? Whatever. Did I forget my ice scraper in the house? Yes. Will it be a nightmare when I finally get back to the car? Hell Yes….unless I can find the mother of all inventions….the wooden ruler, with metal edge. We New Englanders are tough, we make do and I can not tell you how many times that trusty ruler has saved me. Go hug your ruler, let them know they are loved.

Crash and Burn

I feel as if I am on a downward spiral to…DOOM, death, despair, apocalyptic horror. I’ve been in a funk, rut, car with no breaks heading over a cliff. I am just not in a good place right now and haven’t been in awhile.

Part of it is work. I really try to avoid talking about work on this blog because I have heard of the horror that can come from it, of course that is if you are one of the big names and folks follow your writing, but still it pays to be not stupid. Anyhoo, there was a reorg, and my place as a golden go to girl has plummeted to that of the piece of schmegma that you scrape off your shoe. So needless to say I’ve been a bit apathetic at work? Granted I am doing my job, but you know how there is always stuff that isn’t a priority, but should get done, eventually… so just not with the enthusiasm of old. I am certainly not offering to do extra. Work stays at work. When I take a day off, I take the day off and the crackberry can go to hell. There is in fact so much petty bullshit going on that it makes my head want to explode and I am afraid that if I start talking about it I will not be able to stop and this blog will turn into one giant festering pustule.

Then there is the house redo. Our house was sided with pressed paper; there is a name for this type of siding, myter board? You may not know this, but when paper gets wet, it sometimes disintegrates. We have been putting off doing anything with the wisdom of the folks that first invented this craptastic product. However it got to the point that even I was saying, FUCK we need to do something. So we had folks in to do an estimate. Since the house was in such a great state, they said they would unfortunately have to tear everything off and redo it all. On the plus side, the siding I wanted Hardy plank, a cement type of siding that looks like wood and is guaranteed for 50 years, was now only $2500 bucks more than traditional vinyl siding. The down side? Having to totally strip and redo everything was about $10,000 more than we were hoping. But what can you do? The house kind of needs to be standing to live in it. The plus side? Since we are talking a buttload of money, we may as well get a new front door and a new slider out back, and gutters, and shutters. The down side? We are spending enough money that adding these other items only added about 40 bucks to the monthly payment. BLOW ME. My parents and I got into a fight over the siding because when I was talking about colors the color blue came up as a possibility, not a true blue, what I was looking for was something between a light gray and a very dark gray. We have a ranch house; dark colors would make it look smaller than it already is. I wanted a medium gray, but they didn’t have one. They did have a blue that was grayish. My parents FREAKED out, blue is such a bad choice, you have to think retail value, very few people buy blue houses, you have to do something neutral. My dad called a few days later, he had done research, the top selling colors for homes were white (our original house color that I hate, a ranch house is so uninspiring as it is, I think you need a bit of color to define it even slightly.) They just want to help keep us from making a mistake…My mom called a few days later; I talked to our friend the realtor. He feels that painting the house blue is a BIG mistake etc. etc. I stopped listening, she got pissy “I guess our advice isn’t welcome, I have to go.” Christ on a cracker! We ended up doing a light gray with white trim and midnight blue shutters. If it ever stops raining during the weekend we will paint the front door midnight bluish as well. Have I told my parent’s? HELL NO, I haven’t even told them we moved forward with the project. I figure they will be out to the house in March for Spotty’s birthday, they can see it then. Passive aggressive much?

And speaking of Spotty, so as I am writing about my gloom and doom (boy toy and I are constantly at each other too right now. We have cycles, it happens, at least to us, and now is not the best time it seems) the way I handle stress is I read, a lot; constantly in fact. So when I should be doing other things (umm hello bills, what? You haven’t been taken care of in two months? Crap, I will get to you once I finish this chapter). I am in fact 5 or 6 books behind in my reviews, that’s right I have 5 or 6 books that I still need to review good friggen god. So back to Spotty. I feel like I am neglecting him somewhat because all I want to do is read to take my mind off of everything. Which means the housework has gone to shit. Not to mention that The Bride borrowed my vacuum cleaner, yes back in October. So the house hasn’t been vacuumed in forever and a day. There is crap everywhere (no, not real crap, just stuff). So the house is in complete disarray. We needed to do yard work last Sunday as we have not closed our pool yet. So boy toy ran out to get gas for the lawn mower so he could blow all the leaves. He is gone for a fuck long time (we can walk to the friggen gas station). He pulls up into the driveway with crap falling out of the truck. He happened to drive behind a bunch of stores and they happened to have just thrown out a bunch of Halloween costumes. So now we also have bags and bags of costumes everywhere as we try to sort crap out. Which is great because I have been telling boy toy how I want to get a bunch of stuff so Spotty can do dress up. When I was growing up my parents had a huge box and it was filled with stuff like my dad’s army jacket and helmet, my mom’s nursing uniform, all sorts of 60’s shenanigans. We have tons of great photos of the neighborhood kids over playing dress up. I want that for Spotty. And now I will be able to, which is great.

But I try and do something like a load of laundry or dishes and he wants to play. I know if I don’t do the dishes or the laundry it is just NOT GOING TO GET DONE. So I have to tell him I will play in awhile. And we do play. We play geotrax and monster trucks, he likes to take his monster truck and smash into mine. I make mine drive away screaming and he drives behind me saying “I didn’t mean to scare you” and then he crashes into me again, and again and again. Until one of the monster trucks says “want to come over to my house for milk and cookies?” (Where the hell did he come up with this?) We are also doing a bunch of finger painting. I guess I feel bad that when he is watching his little foot videos (dinosaur series) I am reading. And I do try to get out of playing sometimes so I can read, but I know how bad it is to just have him sitting in front of the TV.

Now onto my final bit of gloom. SIL is going to work full time in January. I am really upset about this. Mostly because I have been able to trick myself into thinking that I am not really such a bad mom because I have family watching him. Realistically we could not survive on boy toys salary. I am a big enough bitch that I have refused his ideas of him staying home with the boy. If I can’t stay home with him, which is what I want to do more than life itself, there is NO Fen way in HELL I am going to let boy toy do it. FUCK THAT SHIT. So I have been looking at day care, which is FUCKING expensive. How the FUCK does anyone pay for this shit? I have been more and more depressed on how we are going to be able to swing this. Tim’s mom works in a day care which is actually my first choice because again, that family thing. But my mom and dad also live in the town; which is a great back up. I have been dreading the cost. Places I have been looking at have been between $1600 and $1300 a month. I went to talk to them yesterday and because Gramie A has worked for them for longer than the boy toy and I have been together, we are getting the teacher discount. This turns out to be about as much as we were paying SIL. WOO WOO for us!!! Now I just need to get over the fact that my baby will be going to day care. On the plus side, he gets away from the terminator. On the negative side, he is going to day care. I have been stealing boy toy’s meds because even as I type this I am crying. I think I hear my book calling.

A long day

Spotty chop dressed me today; He picked out black shiny stretch pants/leggings with lace around the ankles and an emerald green silk nightgown. I look smashing. Spotty has been playing rough all day. He has been jumping from the top of the couch onto my back as I worked, run across the room yelling “body slam”and then slammed into me, used the curtains to jump down onto me, and used my hair as a repelling rope to get off of the couch. It has been a long day. I keep asking him to be careful and that he was hurting me, but it was like talking to…a 2 year old. I did end up yelling at one point and we both apologized.

I hate loosing my temper, but my kidney stones are acting up. I am so fed up with work, I feel like I am not trusted anymore, I’ve been kicked off the fast track and am now slumming it with the rest of the weasels. It feels like someone kicked me in the tail bone. I’ve got a head ache. My girlfriend’s MIL is acting like a true clam. The wedding is in 16 days. I think I am just in the mood to be pissy. I’m going to take a shower, maybe that will make me feel better.

Spotty just kicked his daddy in the kneecap, he is in pain. Somehow that makes me feel better.

Uncooked Meat: A Rant for all time

I just love this post. In fact have it saved as a favorite so I can pull up when I am feeling cranky.

Uncooked Meat: Just can't find the time to write my mind the way I want it to read: "Open letters to the various irritations in my life"

What the hell is up with 1:00 AM?

My son whom I love dearly is 2, almost 2 ½. He has never been a good sleeper. He will not fall asleep without me snuggling with him. We have tried putting him to bed early (8PM) and funny thing; he wakes up at 4 or 5 AM. I am not a big fan of the early morning. Hell when I am traveling I don’t like it so if I don’t have to do it I don’t want to. So usually it is get ready for bed between 9 and 9:30 PM and he tends to fall asleep by 10 PM. He wakes up at 6 AM, just in time to “help” me get stuff together in the morning so we can be out of the house by 6:30.

Last night he was asleep by 10 in his room, and crawled into our bed around 1:00AM. After thrashing around for 30 min or so he fell asleep. I brought him back to his room. Walked back to my bed and heard the pitter patter of DOOOOOM. Crawled into our bed with the boy, 10 min later he was jumping on the bed (70’s style water bed, queue the “chicky pow” music). We go into his room to lie down, he plays with my hair, climbs over me, on me, over me, off the bed on the bed. mama I want to sleep on the couch. So we go to the living room where I step on 7 cars, 5 trucks, 2 trains, 15 – 35 pieces of
GeoTrax and 2 PS2 games. I lay a blanket down, lay him on top of blanket, and wrap him up with blanket. Kick EVERYTHING out of my way. Put a blanket on the floor and I lay down. 10 min later he is lying down next to me. 5 min later he is back on the couch, 5-10 min later he is next to me, with his head on my tummy, on my chest, on my legs, and then it is back onto the couch. 3 min after that he is jumping on the couch. I suggest going back to his room. It is somewhere between 2:30 and 3:00, I don’t know for sure because I have now misplaced my glasses and I am blind as a bat without them.

We go lie down in his room again. Mama can I lie on you, please please pleeeease. Of course you can spotty chop, I know you are having a hard time sleeping, can you stop elbowing me in the boob; and my hair, you don’t have to pull it out by the roots, just play with it. Stop putting it in my face I HATE having hair in my face, here I will roll over and you can play with my hair all you want, and then he climbs out of bed and goes into our room. I say good maybe I can fall
asleep. This of course is the time that he turns around and climbs back into his bed. Rinse and repeat. mama I want to sleep on the couch. NO Fin WAY IN HELL, I am cranky, I am so frelling tired and I am unfortunately loosing my patience. So I tell him that I am tired and we are staying in his bed, crying and hitting commence. F this. Fine stay in your bed by yourself then. And I walk out the door, close it, hold it shut for a few min and then walk into our room. Hysterics, I climb back into my bed.

The pitter patter of DOOOOOOM is back. He crawls in next to me, mama I want hold you. Well, I want to hold you too buddy, so come snuggle. Hair in my face, hair in my face, hair in my ears, in my nose, in my face, on his toes, his belly button, hair in my face. mama can I have come chocolate milk please. Yup, no problem, it is 3:55 and he has got to crash soon. So I make chocolate milk, with his help. And we go back to our bed. He drinks chocolate milk, plays with my hair, asks me to hold his chocolate milk, thanks me, rolls over, kicks his father once or twice, rolls back to me, asks for more chocolate milk please. Drinks milk, hands it back. Falls asleep. It is 4 something. I punch Dad and tell him to roll the F over because he has been snoring for 3 Fin hours straight. Loud enough to wake the dead, and not the recently dead, I mean the really
dead.

I finally fall asleep, to wake up to the alarm.

You ask yourself dad? I bet you thought I was a single parent didn’t you? Well, as the Big Dude is so fond of telling me. You didn’t listen to me when he was 6 months old, I told you to let him cry himself to sleep, if you had done that you wouldn’t need to be in his room, he would just go to sleep on his own, he wouldn’t get out of bed, he would fall asleep by 7 pm, he would nap well, the Iraq war would be over, national debt would be at an all time low, dogs and cats would live together in harmony. I think you get the picture. So he does not help out with bedtime. You know what? Blow me. I do not get to stay home with my baby. I am out of the house by 6:30 every Fin morning and I do not get home until about 6:30 in the evening. Snuggling at night is the way I distressed myself.

I don’t think you need to let your child cry themselves to sleep. It just does not seem right to me. This morning do I wish he would just fall asleep on his own? Damn straight, but from my understanding very few high school kids want their moms sleeping with them. I should be able to get to sleep in another 14 years or so.
